I'm a student at University, in Rome. For me it is really important to manage how to spend money so I avoid the horrors of issuing a debt relief order (which my friend recently did) and debt, because of my situation (I don't work, and my parents give me their money). I usually take with me all receipts of my purchases, and, at the end of the month, I use to count that, understanding if my range has been respected. In fact, I use to make a plan of my purchases, expecially for the extra ones. I often think about saving money for the future, and I can say to be really prudent with my money. I classify my outgoings in categories: 1) rent, 2) bills, 3) food, 4) other outgoings, 5) extra-outgoings (such as clothes, accessories, money I spend going out with friends), 6) university outgoings (books, etc.). So, I think that I can handle my finance in a easier way, planning everything (or almost everything). It will be more difficult to face bankrupt! |

My gift buying has really evolved over the years. Back about ten years ago I used to just buy every single person on my list a gift card or give them cash and be done with it. Today things have changed because I started to realize how much giving personalized gifts really does mean to people, for example custom printed usb drives. For someone like my mom, who is an avid gardener, I look online at the gardening websites and buy something that I know she will love. For my dad, the "hard to buy for" man, I look at the electronics and gadget sites to see what is the newest and most updated technology item: It is sure to thrill my dad, and that way I know that it is something he does not already have. With my own kids and with my nieces and nephews, I always double check to make sure what they do and don't have first, and then I like to buy them something they can use both now and in the future. For example, I like to buy them books about their particular area of interest because that is something that is educational and also really personal to them. With kids, they also enjoy things like a new game for their video game system, or maybe a new action figure in the action figure series they are playing. As long as I spend a few minutes thinking about each person's interests and hobbies I find that I always get a present they will end up loving! |
